The premiums for the compulsory basic health insurance keep pace with healthcare costs. But this can vary from one canton to another. In most cantons, the premiums in 2013 will be only slightly higher. In a few cantons, however, the increase will greater. The average increase in Switzerland is 2.1 percent and thus much lower than in previous years. When premiums are increased, the health insurance may be changed or terminated within 30 days of receipt of the policy dated 31 December 2012. If the premiums are not increased, it is possible to change or terminate the insurance at the end of the calendar year subject to three months' notice.
